Our first day with multiple screens brought us one feature length documentary, three narrative feature films, 12 short films in two blocks, three Q&As, and filmmakers and screenwriters from around the world! A truly international evening with our first short film block of international films and the filmmaker for “No Soy Yo (This Isn’t Me)” in attendance from Mexico and our first narrative feature screening with a Q&A with the writer/actress from “Kate Can’t Swim.” The third Q&A session included three of the filmmakers from the Nebraska Short Documentaries, an annual favorite, including “The Retirement of Mr. Jones,” “Think Design Every Day,” and “Missing Piece.” A hugely diverse group of films, each with heart and a message. Great audiences in each screening which poured over into our after party at Tavern 180, a brand new venue for us and one we look forward to having in the future!
Tomorrow’s screenings include two of our special screenings, the amazing documentary “Walk with Me: The Trials of Damon J. Keith,” and the incredible feature film “Laura Gets a Cat,” both with the filmmakers in attendance. Our popular Animated Shorts program is sure to blow everyone away again this year and we’re thrilled to have for the first time a block of short films made exclusively by Nebraska High School students. You won’t want to miss the Q&As for each of these awesome screenings.
Thursday also marks day one of the OFF Academy, our two-day filmmaking workshop designed especially for high school students. With industry professionals discussing screenwriting, producing, directing, cinematography, and storyboarding, the attending students and filmmakers will have an opportunity to interact directly with folks working in the filmmaking industry. With over 100 students and over a dozen local and regional educators, we’re thrilled to be able to participate in the opportunity to help shape our youth by providing Education, Entertainment, and Inspiration to our future artists.
Check out our interactive online schedule, create your calendar, and come spend a couple of days with us. We promise, you won’t be disappointed!
