First Approval Given To Film Incentive- KEEP IT GOING!

LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska native Dana Altman, the 42-year-old grandson of famed filmmaker Robert Altman, produces movies in the state because he has a vested interest.

But most filmmakers and studios don't, and the lack of financial incentives means they often bypass Nebraska, Altman said Friday.

"They can film in Budapest and then call it Omaha," Sen. Tom White of Omaha said during debate on a bill (LB235) that provides for a cash rebate of up to 25 percent of production costs for films, commercials and television programs.

Senators gave first-round approval Friday to the measure from Sen. Danielle Nantkes of Lincoln, with a couple voicing concerns about the financial effects.

Sen. Carroll Burling of Kenesaw questioned why neighboring states offer a sales tax rebate on agricultural equipment repair parts, but Nebraska does not.

That kind of refund is "the one time we should look at a change in the tax base," he said.

BLOG: 12/12/2007 MEETING NOTES

DEC 12TH 2007- BREAD AND CUP notes:

Great meeting. Casual and fun. Met new people! Ate great food! Drank great beer! We welcomed Jason, Tyson, Seth and Chris as first time visitors. Jenny spoke to us about potential grants for Middle of Nowhere and the future of NIFP!

We're possibly looking for some funding to get our own digs. Ideas for potential NIFP Office locations are needed. Plum Creek and Turbine Hills were mentioned as friendly to nonprofits. Know of a grant or co-op meeting space available?
