LB 235 advances from Revenue Committee
(Lincoln, NE) The Legislature?s Revenue Committee advanced a measure that would create for the first time in Nebraska law, the Nebraska Film Enhancement Rebate Program. The program provides incentives for film production in Nebraska.
Senator Danielle Nantkes, sponsor of LB 235 said, ?I am thrilled that the committee shares my enthusiasm for this program. LB 235 will stimulate economic development, celebrate the inherent beauty of the Nebraska landscape, and help Nebraska stop the brain drain of creative and talented people?.
LB 235 creates certain criteria to qualify for the rebate and funding can be appropriated in addition to other public and private donations, contributions and gifts received for the benefit of the fund. The film office will be housed within the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission which has an enabling foundation.
Andrew Nelson, owner and operator of Castlegate Pictures in Omaha said, ?I think this is a terrific piece of legislation and I look forward to full debate by the entire Legislature?. Nelson added, ?Nebraska is a great state and has great potential when it comes to the entertainment business?. In addition to being the owner of a local film company, Nelson has worked on films with DreamWorks, Universal, Paramount and Sony Picture Studios.
The Revenue Committee advanced LB 235 on a 5-2 vote. Previous Legislatures have not advanced similar proposals in the recent past. LB 235 has not been prioritized.
