Quick Mini Review of FUNNY GAMES

Jake and I went to see this on Monday at the Ross. At first I thought it was a commentary on AMERICAN violence from the usual Columbine perspective. BUT, from what I read, this is a shot by shot remake of a German original from 10 years ago. SUPER violent, like a modern version of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, with some similar home invasion for the fun of it themes. I liked the contrast of super naive white rich suburban people with ultra jaded ultra violent modern teenagers who can act their way into their little Funny Games moments of well thought out violence. The movie is wonderfully shot, with some of the most intense scenes going on for five to 10 minutes on ONE CONTINUOUS TAKE! Not for everybody, but it will go down as a VERY influential remake. Makes me want to see the original. RHETT
