CALLING ALL NEBRASKA FILM AND VIDEO PEOPLE: FEB 3RD IS THE DAY! COME TO THE STATE CAPITOL!

Wednesday, February 3rd is the day!
Legislative Bill 1073, the bill which establishes the Film Incentive program we have been working to create in Nebraska has been introduced and is up for public hearing on Wednesday, February 3rd. The hearing begins at 1:30 pm in Room 1524 of the State Capitol Building in Lincoln (1st floor, west-center hallway). The physical address of the State Capitol Building is 1445 K Street, Lincoln, NE 68509.

We are calling on all Nebraska Film and Creative Arts supporters to crowd the State Capitol Building on Wednesday, February 3rd! What we need from you is a large group to fill the hearing room as a sign of this bill’s magnitude and scope. Show our elected body that this bill will bring more future film projects to Nebraska and will utilize the great talent pool that already resides here.

The Nebraska Film Association has assembled an experienced team of testifiers to define the many reasons this bill helps you, the state of Nebraska and its local talents. The presence of a passionate group of film supporters behind them adds even more purpose to this important message.

*For those champions that choose to attend, we implore you to visit your Representative’s office in person that day or at the very least, we encourage all of the state’s film and arts community supporters to contact their State Senator either by phone or email next week to tell them what this bill means to Nebraska.

*To find your State Senator, including links to their office phone line and email address, please visit http://www.nebraskalegislature.gov/senators/senator_find.php
(simply follow the instructions at the top of this webpage to locate your local State Senator)

Last minute notes on Feb 3rd Public Hearing from Jaime

A message to all members of Film In Nebraska

All

If you are going to Lincoln on Wednesday, a few last thoughts.

The bill is called Building Nebraska's Creative Economy Act. This dovetails into the building of Nebraska's creative class (a topic that has been talked about in and out of the film community). LB1073. Tell those in the creative community too.

Make an effort to visit your Senator - in person, while you're there - about the bill and how you are affected by zero incentives. This is permitted and encouraged.

Bring your passion but be as positive as possible. At this point, any hurling of negativity or references to previous efforts will not help our forward progress.

Projects of reference should be a movie called Nebraska, an Alexander Payne movie that he will not make here IF incentives are not passed. Secondly - Up in the Air, an Oscar nominated film, set in Omaha and shot partially here - should have shot more days here. But lack of incentives drove it to Missouri.

IF YOU CAN NOT ATTEND - you can view the hearing ONLINE.
