The OFF Screenwriter/Filmmaker Summit will be on February 6th.

The Omaha Film Festival, a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization, sets out to deliver a fresh and innovative cinema experience through the exhibition of independent film and the growth of its Film Education Initiative program, and has become a staple of Omaha’s developing cultural identity. CALLING ALL NEBRASKA FILM AND VIDEO PEOPLE: FEB 3RD IS THE DAY! COME TO THE STATE CAPITOL!

Wednesday, February 3rd is the day!
Legislative Bill 1073, the bill which establishes the Film Incentive program we have been working to create in Nebraska has been introduced and is up for public hearing on Wednesday, February 3rd. The hearing begins at 1:30 pm in Room 1524 of the State Capitol Building in Lincoln (1st floor, west-center hallway). The physical address of the State Capitol Building is 1445 K Street, Lincoln, NE 68509.

We are calling on all Nebraska Film and Creative Arts supporters to crowd the State Capitol Building on Wednesday, February 3rd! What we need from you is a large group to fill the hearing room as a sign of this bill’s magnitude and scope. Show our elected body that this bill will bring more future film projects to Nebraska and will utilize the great talent pool that already resides here.

Lights on, but no camera, action (Omaha World Herald)

By David Hendee
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

The lights are still burning at the Omaha Film Office.

Although Kathy Rocco, who helped moviemakers in Omaha for nearly two decades, walked away from her desk for the last time Friday, someone will answer the phone when filmmakers call.

But Hollywood hasn’t been calling lately.

Splice scenes of cobwebs strung across a silent telephone on a downtown office desk with images of declining tax revenue and you get the picture: Rocco’s role in the cast was cut.

“There’s a lot of emotion here,’’ said Dana Markel, executive director of the Omaha Convention & Visitors Bureau. “People are close to Kathy. We hate to see her go.’’

The convention bureau and its Omaha Film Office are funded by local lodging tax revenue, which has declined during the recession.

Markel said a subsequent staff restructuring and budget cuts led to the elimination of Rocco’s job.

IFP’s Independent Filmmaker Labs

Dear Nebraska Independent Filmmakers,

I am working with IFP on their upcoming Independent Filmmaker Labs. I
am asking for your help in finding filmmakers from your constituency
to participate in IFP’s Independent Filmmaker Labs.

IFP’s Independent Filmmaker Labs is the only free program in the U.S.
supporting first-time feature directors at the crucial rough cut/post
production stage. We are reaching out to organizations such as yours
who we feel would have a constituency well-suited to this program. We
would love it if you could get the word out to your community to
encourage them to apply to the Labs. Would you be interested in
spreading the word to your constituents?

There are a few ways we would like to connect:

- Newsletter or list-serv mention
- Dedicated email blast
- Blog promotion
- Placement of info at an event or facility
- Article written

In addition, if you know of any projects that you feel might be of

Interesting article about Theaters 2010

10 Things Movie Theaters Won't Tell You
by Sarah Morgan Thursday, December 31, 2009 provided bySmartMoney.com

1. "We're obsolete? No way!"

Hard to believe, but movie theaters have been holding their own, despite intense competition from cable, the Internet and other media. After a 2005 slump, box office revenue increased over the past few years, and it's likely 2009 will have set a new record. But that growth is due largely to inflation; the number of tickets bought has stayed close to 1.4 billion since 2005, while the average ticket price has climbed from $6.41 to $7.46.
