LB863 advances out of Urban Affairs committee- Feb 2, 2012
Posted February 3rd, 2012 by DJRhettMCA message from the Nebraska Film Association, sent on behalf of President, Mark Hoeger:
CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!
As you may have heard Senator (our hero) Colby Coash's LB863 was advanced out of the Urban Affairs committee by a UNANIMOUS vote.
As a supporter and promoter of increased film production in Nebraska, Feb 2nd was a big day.
Your steadfast commitment to this cause is finally paying off. This is the way it works in the Legislature; even good ideas take a few years to get fully vetted.
We think now we have the right Bill, with the right champion, at the right time, but we are still have several laps to complete before the finish line.
THE CURRENT STATE OF LB863
The bill has advanced out of the committee but before it can even come to a vote, Speaker Mike Flood will need to find a place on the packed agenda for a floor debate.
Realistically, especially in a short session, that will only happen if someone prioritizes the bill.
Looking for Actors
Posted January 10th, 2012 by ErinHello,
I have been involved in this group since its beginning, and have found a lot of great resources here!
I work at UNL in the Pesticide Education Office and each year we do video projects to help train pesticide applicators on different topics. Many of these we do in dramatization form and are seeking actors! A few years ago I had a project that I posted here and got a lot of great response!
There will be projects coming down the pike this year and I am looking to establish a list of potential actors. I have started a group on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/groups/295888337130814/ as a one stop shop for updates about upcoming projects. I also maintain an email list for those who may not have Facebook.

3/17/2011 update on LB99- State Senator Colby Coash
Posted March 17th, 2011 by DJRhettMCDear LB 99 supporters,
Thank you for your continued support of LB 99. I appreciate the time, interest and resources you all have provided as we work to move this bill through the Legislature. I wanted to provide you with an update as to the bills current status and future.
The LB 99 hearing on February 25 before the Revenue Committee presented us with two challenges: 1) Proving the film industry worthy of the state’s investment; and 2) Obtaining funding from the Local Civic, Cultural and Convention Center Finance Fund to pay for the bill.
LB99 hearings on Friday 2/25
Posted February 18th, 2011 by DJRhettMCThe afternoon of Friday, February 25 will be the hearing for Senator Coash’s LB99, the Nebraska Film Advantage Act. We encourage you to attend the hearing and bring a friend. Numbers do impress the Senators.
It is the right of any one to speak at the hearing but it is not necessary. Senator Coash has selected to speak representatives of the constituencies that will benefit from the Act. Many more speakers will not respect the Senator's scarce time.
The hearing will be in front of the Revenue Committee chaired by Senator Cornett who is a co-sponsor of the bill (stop by the info desk at the center of the ground floor for directions). Hearing are held from around 1 to 4pm. There will be several other bills heard that day and we will not know until mid-next-week what the agenda order will be. If you can’t hang out all afternoon call Senator Coash’s office
Deena Winter Blog post about LB99, Sen Coash support.
Posted February 9th, 2011 by DJRhettMCLB99 is getting some blog press. Comment with your support! Thanks!
http://deenawinter.wordpress.com/2011/02/07/bill-would-give-movie-produc...
Sen. Colby Coash — who costars in the road trip comedy “Trunk’d” filmed last year in Nebraska — is pushing a bill that would give incentives to producers to film their movies in Nebraska.
Under the Nebraska Film Advantage Act, LB99, production companies that film in Nebraska could apply for grants from the state if they spend more than $500,000 in the state, have at least 10 Nebraska employees, provide matching funds equal to the grant. Each company would be eligible for up to $1 million in grants, but no more than $500,000 per project.
Money for the grants would come from the Local Civic, Cultural and Convention Center Financing Fund — which was created to help build and expand convention centers and arenas, including Qwest Center Omaha and Lincoln’s planned arena.
Nebraska LB99 "The Nebraska Film Advantage Act."
Posted January 26th, 2011 by DJRhettMCFrom Mark Hoeger January 26, 2011:
I hope everyone will watch the video message from Senator Colby Coash posted on our NFA FaceBook page. You can also see the 90sec message produced by NFA member Lonnie Senstock on YouTube at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBv8fMmXJr8
Please forward the links to folks who you think might support film incentives in Nebraska.
While you are sending messages to your own Senator and Senator Coash, take time to thank the other co-sponsors of LB99 "The Nebraska Film Advantage Act." They include Senators Cornett, Hadley, Karpisek, Lathrop, Louden, McGill, Mello, Nordquist, Schilz, and Wallman.
It takes 25 votes to pass a bill into law so to start with nearly half the votes needed as committed co-sponsors gives the bill some momentum. We are pleased to see some returning supporting Senators especially Heath Mello who lead the effort on the floor for the past two sessions.
AMC Theatres: Local Film Outreach and Invitation
Posted January 26th, 2011 by DJRhettMCHope that this finds you off to a great start in 2011. Last summer, one of my colleagues (Gene Willis) reached out to introduce you to AMC Theatres' renewed commitment to expanding indie film, the "AMC independent" program. We promised to keep in touch with you throughout the year with updates and opportunities to make a local connection with films and other unique events.
In the first year of the program, we've made great strides in raising awareness for our guests and filmmakers alike to see expanded and new stories on-screen. Here are a few highlights:
- Over the past 2 months, we have partnered with the filmmakers of the movie "Mooz-Lum" and Eventful (the marketing group behind "Demand It!" campaigns for Paranormal Activity) to provide an exclusive, guest-"demanded" opportunity. Over 30,000 votes throughout North America helped to determine the 10 markets where we will show this diverse independent film, starting Feb. 12.

Nebraska Film Group (not NIFP) physical office closing in Omaha
Posted October 6th, 2010 by DJRhettMCThe NFG offices will be closed at the end of October due to the Building owners leasing our space to someone else. It seems that they signed a 15yr lease with them and gave us 30 days to vacate. After The NFG has spent over 40,000 in rent this is how they do it. They are willing to lease us a space on 17th and Harney with 2 times the square footage for the same price but the space just doesn't lend itself to what we do and the parking is even worst. It would seem that we will be going virtual for a while as we redevelop the NFG and try to find a new home.
This for sure is a bit of a set back for us but as always, we will find a way to bounce back. If anyone is interested in helping with the NFG reboot, please contact me personally.
in great frustration,

NE Senator Health Mello promotes film production incentives on Silicon Prairie
Posted August 25th, 2010 by DJRhettMCGreetings all:
Courtesy of the Silicon Prairie News, the Omaha World Herald’s website has published a great article on Nebraska ’s need for film production incentives, as well as Senator Heath Mello’s fight to bring more film projects to the state. Mello, who represents Omaha ’s District 5 and was introducer of last session’s LB 1073 and LB 1074, is still enthusiastically blazing the trail for Nebraska ’s film future. The piece appears as part of a series titled Nebraska Film: An Exploration of the Growing Community (To learn more, you can go to: http://www.siliconprairienews.com/2010/08/nebraska-film-series-starts-mo...).

“Isabelle” is a supernatural horror slasher that tells the story of Isabelle Wakeworth, a young woman who had her eyes carved out by her father and who is reanimated to take revenge on her family. The film works to subvert traditional slasher conventions and archetypes while still maintaining the slasher tradition with oodles of crazy death sequences. The film will be shot using Canon 7D cameras and will be filmed on the weekends throughout the year. We can work around any schedule.
Here are the roles being cast:
